AFDD

AFDD is an innovative device specially developed for the detection and disconnection of electric circuits that have hidden electric arc faults that can cause serious damage. Only an AFDD can detect and disconnect arc faults in series and in parallel in electrical installations.

AFDD devices for detecting electric arc faults were created to provide high safety in homes, residential complexes and office buildings. AFDD reduces the risk of electrical fires caused by electric arcs resulting either inside electrical devices or in faulty, worn or improperly used electrical circuits.

AFDD+ will trigger as soon as it detects an electric arc of a certain intensity and frequency considered dangerous according to the IEC 60364-4-42 standard. However, the AFDD is tolerant to electric arcs caused by the normal operation of electrical devices such as switches, brush motors or low-intensity arcs that occur when electrical devices are connected and disconnected.

Through continuous electronic monitoring of the power circuit, the device detects electric arc faults and automatically triggers to prevent residential electrical fires. AFDD+ from Eaton conveniently eliminates the need to use three separate protection devices MCB, RCD, AFDD. This multi-functional device combines the protection functions of a residual current circuit breaker, a modular circuit breaker, and an arc fault circuit breaker to protect against electric shock, overcurrent, as well as short circuit or arc faults in power cables.

Main features

  • combines three protection functions in one device
    • protection against fires caused by electric arc faults
    • short circuit and overload protection (cable protection)
    • protection against residual current
  • easy to assemble both in new and existing installations
  • saves time in the case of troubleshooting with error code repetition
  • in case of failure, only the affected final circuit is disconnected
  • the built-in displays indicate the status of the device and the reason for the disconnection:
    • LED display of the error code is easy to use
    • repeating the error code saves time in case of troubleshooting
  • the extremely sensitive digital detection of electric arc faults exceeds the provisions of the applicable norms and prevents unintentional disconnection
  • it complies with the provisions established in IEC 60364-4-42 and is suitable for use in accordance with DIN VDE 0100-420
